Founder’s Day 2006 Event
Was a Great Success!!

The 2nd Annual Alumni get together and meeting was held on June 17.  The Alumni Association had a booth at Founder’s Day for the 2nd year to make contact with new alumni present at the Founder’s Day event in Medical Lake.  The Association had a 1940’s classic truck in the parade and Secretary Linda House, and associate members Maureen Carl and Pat Tyler passed out buckets of candy during the parade to children on the sidelines.  Many alumni members attended and rode their motorcycles in the parade along with the Alumni Association vehicle.

A picnic was held for Alumni at Waterfront Park and many alumni attended the picnic and had a great time meeting up with old friends.  A special thank you to Linda George Barber ‘66, Debbie George Barber ‘69, and Daria Lien St. John ’66 who traveled from CA to host the picnic at Waterfront Park.  Thank you, thank you, thank you! Next years picnic will be hosted by Kathy Murphy Schaefer ’67.

The Alumni Booth at Founder’s Day was a great place to meet up and visit with alums.  The booth was manned by association members who signed up 25 new members: 20 for yearly dues; 3 as Charter Members, and 2  for Lifetime Membership; and, they obtained lots of alumni information for our database. Our newsletter will now reach many more alumni due to our presence at Founder’s Day.  We hope to provide a roster of all members in the fall newsletter (in October).   Bill Carl and PeggyLee Hallinan attended this year’s graduation ceremony on 6/8/06 for MLHS and signed up 54 of the 2006 graduates to the alumni association.

Scholarship Fund

50/50 Raffle Tickets were sold to support the Scholarship Fund and resulted in $254 in raffle ticket sales.  $127 of those funds was placed in the scholarship fund; the remaining $127 was distributed to raffle winners:

1st Prize winner was Craig Grub with $62; 2nd Prize winner was Ron Adams ’63 for $40; and 3rd Prize winner was Sandy Wood Rohrich ’63 for $25. Craig Grub and Sandy Wood Rohrich donated their winnings back to the Scholarship Fund.

Thank you for your generosity!  Ron Adams bought a round of drinks for those alumni members at the Annual Meeting.  Thank you Ron.  Thanks to all who participated and purchased raffle tickets.

T-Shirts were designed by the Alumni Association Committee to support the Scholarship Fund and sold for $10 each to association members and $15 for non-members.  Total amount sold was $255.00.
Please note
a limited number of 1st year T-shirts remain available for sale and will not be available again.  Each year the Alumni Association will design a T-shirt for sale to support the scholarship fund.  Start your collection of T-shirts today by ordering your 1st Edition T-Shirt.  If you would like to purchase a t-shirt please contact Tim or Linda House at Crowncarriage@aol.com.  Cost is $10.  (If the T-shirt is mailed to you an additional fee of $3.00 per shirt will be charged.)

Total income from the Founder’s Day Event sales and dues received was $1869.00.  Of that amount $469 went to the MLHS Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.  The remaining funds went to the general fund for operating expenses.

The next Founder’s Day Event will be  held June 16, 2007.  Mark your calendar for next year’s events.  Watch the newsletter for upcoming 2007 events.

  1. To make clear to the alumni members that the website on the MLHS School site is not associated with our organization.  (However, that site has agreed to include our event information on their site as requested for dissemination of information on upcoming events).
  2. The need for additional webmasters to produce and support our association website;
  3. The need for additional assistance in locating alumni;
  4. The need to reach out and recruit younger members to the association;
  5. The donation of a quilt by Patt Staley Patterson for the 2007 Founder’s Day Raffle that supports the scholarship fund.
  6. Discussion regarding advertisement opportunities on the MLHS Booster Board at the High School;
  7. Additional Fundraising opportunities were discussed.
  8. Formation of a membership committee.

Beauty and the Beast

Following the Annual Meeting the VFW provided a Chicken Fried Steak dinner for $6 per person.  It was a great dinner!!!  Thanks to the VFW for use of the meeting room and for making available to us a great dinner.

Wonderful music was provided by “Beauty and the Beast”, a husband and wife musical team, who played the oldies that you all love for 4 hours.  We danced, laughed and had great fun.  If you are planning an event and need good music, think about calling on Beauty and the Beast.  They were fantastic!!!  Plan to join us at Founder’s Day and the annual meeting next year.  It was a wonderful time for all in attendance.  A GREAT SUCCESS.
